About TERASURE

TREASURE demonstrates large pit thermal energy storage and improves its components, processes and procedures to accelerate the realisation of fully sustainable district heating networks in Europe. The goal is to bridge the gap between research and practice, ensuring robust, safe, cost-effective and sustainable large-scale thermal energy storage. The project is supported by the European Union through Horizon Europe and brings together a broad consortium of European partners.

January 2024– December 2027

The challenge

A renewable-based heating supply needs storage that can hold energy from days to entire seasons. Pit thermal energy storage is a cost-effective way to do this at scale, but wider deployment requires bridging the gap between research and practice.

Our role

Aalborg CSP contributes to the development of large-scale underground thermal energy storage solutions, including system integration and environmental and economic assessment.
