TASK 41
The economics of energy storage
About Task 41
Task 41 is an international assessment under the IEA Energy Storage Technology Collaboration Programme. Its goal was to evaluate the economic viability of all major energy storage technologies, electrical, thermal and chemical, across the electricity, heating, cooling and mobility sectors, and to translate the value of storage into viable business cases.
The challenge
Energy storage couples sectors and shifts demand to periods when low-cost wind and solar power is available. Understanding when and how storage creates economic value is essential for turning technical benefits into viable business cases.
Project duration
2022 – June 2025
Our role
Aalborg CSP, DTU and PlanEnergi formed the Danish contribution, providing economic evaluations of thermal energy storage technologies, with Danish participation supported by EUDP.
