Founded in Aalborg, Denmark in 1988, Aalborg CSP has built its position on advanced thermal engineering, with particular depth in steam generation, concentrated solar power applications and molten salt systems. From 2011, the company intensified its activities into district heating solutions, building first on solar thermal before adding heat pump systems and pit thermal energy storage with patented PTES lid technology. Over time, these activities developed into a strong and independent business with its own market profile, customer base and growth trajectory, making a transition to dedicated ownership with a more focused approach a natural next step.
The Low Temperature Division will now continue independently under the name Aalborg Heating & Cooling Systems, founded by Alois Müller Beteiligungs GmbH. Around 20 employees transfer to the new company, with daily management led by CEO Jes Donneborg.
Aalborg CSP, led by CEO Peter Badstue Jensen, will continue with approximately 30 employees across its offices in Denmark and Spain. The company is returning to the basic core business: consulting engineering, primarily of high temperature energy systems. Activities also continue in the BK Engineering division, a dedicated team working mainly for the Danish defence sector, and in the joint venture with Alfa Laval supplying advanced high temperature steam generators and advanced heat exchanger units.
The company works as an independent engineering and consulting firm across the full project lifecycle, covering feasibility and concept development through detailed engineering, procurement management, and construction and commissioning support. Working with temperatures from 100 ºC and up with medias like water, steam, molten salt and thermal oil, Aalborg CSP focuses now fully on markets where the energy transition creates most value for the customers with complex thermal engineering challenges:
- Industrial process heat decarbonization
- Oil and gas electrification
- Renewable energy storage and Coal plant repurposing
- Nuclear (SMR) thermal integration
The company’s expertise is built upon close to four decades of hands-on engineering and delivery experience across five continents and some of the most active molten salt and thermal storage R&D programmes in Europe.
“This agreement is a natural consequence of our drive to strengthen our core business, and to allow each business to focus on what it does best. The energy transition is full of first-of-their-kind projects, and thermal integration is where many of the projects become complex and cause extraordinary expenses. Aalborg CSP brings close to four decades of delivery experience and active R&D to exactly these challenges, as independent consultants and engineers who have solved similar integration tasks across a wide range of technologies and industries. That is a rare combination, and it is what we are now fully focused on.”
- says Peter Badstue Jensen, CEO
For existing customers and partners, the transition means continuity. The same teams, projects and technical expertise remain in place for each business unit.
