In mid-October, the steam generator system for the 50MWe Godawari CSP Project, delivered by Aalborg CSP & Sojitz Corporation, was handed over to the EPC company - Lauren CCL Engineers Pvt. Ltd., that is constructing the plant. With the delivery of the steam generator system, the solar project has reached an important milestone towards completion of the plant. The CSP plant located in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan in India is expected to start commercial operation in spring 2013 and is expected to generate 130GWh annually.

Heart of the CSP plant

As the heart of the power plant, the steam generator uses solar energy that has been absorbed in the solar field to generate superheated steam for a steam turbine producing 50MW renewable electricity.

To ensure minimum production loss, the Aalborg CSP steam generator design is a 100% welded coil and header-type based on steam boiler technology rather than conventional kettle-type heat exchangers. Applying a fully welded coil and header-type with up to 4.5mm thick tubes significantly reduces leaking tubes and thereby reduces downtime throughout the lifetime of the system. By reducing downtime, productivity, electricity earning and the general payback time of the power plant are greatly improved.

"The innovated Aalborg CSP design for the steam generating equipment will help the Godawari CSP project meet the required production goals.  Lauren is pleased to partner with Aalborg CSP on this important project and looks forward to a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship" says Tushar Shahane, CEO of Lauren CCL Engineers Pvt. Ltd.

Ready for phase II

The Godawari CSP Project was allocated under phase I of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM), an initiative of the Government of India to produce 20GW of solar energy by 2022.

Since entering the Indian market one and a half years ago, Aalborg CSP & Sojitz Corporation has been working hard to understand the Indian CSP market and promoting their well-known and much appreciated services and their high quality, state-of-the-art steam generator design. As part of the plan to achieve a strong market position The Delta Group, a group of companies focused on the power sector, has been appointed as a local partner.

As JNNSM phase II begins in 2013, and Aalborg CSP & Sojitz Corporation is well prepared to play an important role.
