With a unique experience in design and delivery of large scale steam generators systems for CSP plants, Aalborg CSP was awarded the order for a 25MWe steam generator system for the Gujarat Solar One concentrated solar power (CSP) project.

Gujarat Solar One CSP project was carried out by Cargo Power and Infrastructure Ltd. with Lauren Engineers & Constructors as EPC Contractor. The CSP plant was the first to be built in the state of Gujarat and is located in Rapar in Jutch district of Gujarat. The project was the first in India to use thermal energy storage, providing energy from the collected solar power for up to 9 hours.

The CSP plant utilizes the key features of Aalborg CSP's improved steam generators using thermal oil as heat transfer fluid. The optimised system won international recognition ( Supplier and Technology Award) in 2013 due to the operational benefits it provides.

Increased performance, higher availability

The Aalborg CSP steam generator technology is developed based on traditional boiler principles. Aside from complying with standard technical specifications, the steam generation system using thermal oil is designed to carry high bankability potential. This state-of-the-art boiler technology eliminates leakages and thereby reduces downtime throughout the lifetime of the system, which is backed by a 5 years non-leakage guarantee. By reducing downtime - productivity, electricity earning and the general payback time of the power plant are greatly improved. The 3rd configuration of Aalborg CSP's steam generator technology is further optimised to guarantee a high gradient of up to 9°C/min, allowing a rapid ramp-up every morning and after transient clouds. This can ensure more than 30 minutes extra operation on a normal 9 hour day, thereby increasing energy production by 5% and increasing daily revenue accordingly. These two main design elements together reduce LCOE of CSP plants by at least 5%, but in some cases up to 10%.
