The role of key CSP components in levelised cost of energy reduction in China

China, the world's largest electricity producer and consumer has begun to show a promising landscape for large-scale solar-thermal power generation. With a few already operational pilot projects and the government's ambitious initiatives to generate 3 GW by 2020, China can be highly influential on global CSP competitiveness and energy prices generated by the CSP technology.

As a representative of NEST and Aalborg CSP, Jens Taggart Pelle will introduce the vital role of main CSP components in levelised cost of energy (LCOE) reduction. Mr. Pelle will illustrate how (1) a cost-competitive thermal energy storage system developed by NEST, (2) a newly invented direct-steam storage concept jointly developed by NEST and Aalborg CSP and (3) the globally recognizedsteam generation systems from Aalborg CSP contribute to the overall CSP plant's revenue increase and LCOE reduction as a result.

About the speaker

Jens Taggart Pelle is Area Sales Manager at Aalborg CSP A/S, a globally leading company in concentrated solar power (CSP) systems and technologies. Jens is in charge of business development and global sales of Aalborg CSP's CSP power plant technologies, including the award winning SGS3 steam generation systems, solar tower receivers and thermal energy storage solutions (latter one developed and promoted in collaboration with Norwegian company: NEST).

Throughout his professional career, both in Denmark and in emerging markets, Jens has gained extensive knowledge of thermal energy systems, allowing him to successfully launch and realize technology optimization programmes in close collaboration with solar developers, EPC companies and owner engineers. Jens is committed to reduce levelised cost of energy (LCOE) of CSP plants and aims to bring added-value to the design processes by utilizing his expertise and advising his clients from the earliest stage of their project life-cycle.
