To comply with CSP power plants' critical requirements for cyclic operational time and high operational steam pressure, the Aalborg CSP Header-Coil heat exchangers has over the years undergone several optimization practices with primary focus on reliability and performance. Since introducing Aalborg CSP’s heat exchangers using Header-Coil technology to a commercial plant in 2009, it has been optimized to fit both thermal oil, molten salt and water/steam applications.
In 2019, the company celebrated their 10-year anniversary for no leaks. Since 2009, the Header-Coil technology has been operation in Spain without leakages in the tube bundles contributing to a significantly lower operation and maintenance cost.
We supply the 3rd configuration of our steam generation system for thermal oil CSP plants and the 4th configuration for molten salt CSP plants as well as the oil-to-salt heat exchanger for TES capacity.
Value-adding engineering design
Steam generation systems and heat exchangers from Aalborg CSP A/S are all developed based on traditional power boiler principles providing multiple operational benefits. They are 100% welded Header-Coil type designed according to ASME and EN standards. This design philosophy has proven high reliability and availability in some of the most efficient CSP plants in the world.
- Leakage-free design: By eliminating operational mistakes and risk for downtime, productivity, electricity earning and the general payback time of the power plant is greatly improved. As a result of excellent performance track records, Aalborg CSP launched a new standard in the concentrated solar power (CSP) industry by announcing a 5-year guarantee against leakages for their steam generation systems.
- Rapid ramp-up of 10 °C/min: Both the steam generation systems for thermal oil and molten salt can allow a fast ramp-up every morning and at transient clouds. The rapid start ensures more than 30 minute extra energy production of a 9-hour daily operational time and increase daily revenue accordingly.
The general principle of constructability characterizes the design of our steam generators to minimize installation work on site and the economies associated with it. Both the 3rd and 4th configuration of Aalborg CSP’s steam generation systems are developed to perfectly fit into the plant layout. They are prepared for direct mounting on site, and interconnection piping is also pre-fabricated to reduce the time spent on installation.
