CSP module solution provides several output possibilities

The CSP module solution can be applied to a series of applications all essential for a wide spread of industries. Moreover, it is possible to combine outputs enabling for example a production of electricity and cooling or cooling and desalination.

Below is listed a few examples of industries that can benefit from CSP module solution:

Electricity

Electricity: can be applied in all industries.

Water

Heating: can be applied for district heating, mining, hotels, apartment blocks, hospitals and prisons.

Steam

Process steam: can be applied for district heating, laundries, dairies, brewhouses and food industries.

Cooling: can be applied for air-conditioning in hotels, apartment blocks, hospitals, and cooling of large industries with a refrigeration demand such as large dairies.

Water

Desalination of water: can be applied for areas with limited water resources such as Sudan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe and Tunisia.

Mechanical power:  a steam turbine can drive rotating equipment such as pumps, air compressors and blowers.

To illuminate the application possibilities using the concentrated solar power technology as industrial size energy source, a series of cases differing in size, location and industry are presented below:

In Denmark the parabolic trough system is used as an add-on application for district heating. In this case a series of 504 troughs are installed over 70,000m2 to produce 451,000 liters of hot water per year for heating up Danish households. This specific system reduces emission gases by 337 tons per year and is saving fossil fuels in the production of district heating and thereby delivers a greener heat for the environmentally conscious Danish society.

In Australia the solar tower system is applied for producing steam for cleaning bottles in a large international brewery. The solar tower with a height of 42 meter produces 15 tons of hot steam per hour and over 31,000 tons per year with a field of 700 heliostats.

In Africa, where many suffer from water deficiency, and food, beverage and medicine go to waste due to the frequent electrical cuts, the solar tower is applied for producing electricity and desalination, producing 224 tons of drinking water per hour and over 560,000 tons per year. The 60 meter high 5MW solar tower, which has a field of 2580 heliostats is not afflicted by the electrical cuts, and can thereby guarantee a safe refrigeration of medicine and food, while producing fresh drinking water.

In India the parabolic trough system is applied for producing steam, which is used for cleaning clothes in a textile factory. 216 troughs are spread over 20.000m2 and produce 13 tons of hot steam per hour and 23.500 tons per year for the factory.

In Italy the parabolic trough system is used as an add-on on a coal fueled power plant, where it produces 90 tons of steam per hour and 10MW electricity for the Italian households, saving on the costly coal reserves. The parabolic trough system covers a field of 180,000m2 with 1368 troughs and delivers green electricity for the Italians.

In the Middle East a large luxury hotel complex uses the solar tower system for air-conditioning the hotel. The solar tower system produces 4.4MW cooling and 6.5 tons of steam per hour and 13,500 tons per year through the 71,000m2 field of 280 heliostats.
